These Celebrities Really Make a Difference

We are often fascinated by celebrities because of their presence on the screen or stage, but for these celebs their work isn’t done when the performance ends. Not only does their “day job” impact our lives, but they also strive to make a difference with considerable donations to charities that benefit society as a whole. While, many celebrities use charity work as a PR stunt other public figures have devoted a huge portion of their lives to giving back and have done so consistently throughout their careers. Here is a list of celebrities that continue to give back and help restore our faith in humanity. Elton John Elton John is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) contributor towards AIDS research. He founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation in the 80’s. His passion for this project came after witnessing many close friends fall victim to this disease. He has made crucial donations over the years to over 50 charity organizations. Some of the other causes he consistently supports are disaster relief, homelessness and hunger, civil rights, cancer, bullying, and gay/lesbian equality. His entrance into charity work began in the 1980’s with his participation in the Conspiracy Of Hope tour for Amnesty International. He has been a huge advocate for human rights, proper economics, AIDS research and awareness, fighting poverty, and quite a bit more. He has been nominated on three separate occasions for the Nobel Peace Prize on account of his tireless efforts. He established the nonprofit, Clinton Foundation, to tackle issues in health, safety/security, economic stability, eliminate prejudice, and environmental issues. Over the years, he has worked with over 50 different charities like Make-A-Wish Foundation, Artists for Peace and Justice, and World Vision to name a few. They have been a loud voice for refugees all over the world and are frequently working with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The have also formed the Jolie-Pitt Foundation to fight poverty, wildlife conservation, protection of natural resources, and general humanitarian causes. And of course, who can forget the 3 children they have adopted. 4/10 Sting Like many others, Sting has done charity work for numerous humanitarian organizations, however, his true passion lies with protecting the environment; especially the world’s rapidly diminishing rainforests. He established The Rainforest Foundation to help protect the Amazon rainforest from mass-eradication. Unlike other organizations that are devoted to this cause, it focuses mainly on protecting the rights of the indigenous populations that inhabit this area. He is often known to organize and perform at concerts that raise money for disaster relief and various humanitarian causes. She works very closely with the Susan G. Komen foundation and promotes breast cancer awareness very heavily on her show during the month of October. She is one of the biggest advocates of animal rights and passionately fights against animal abuse. She is known to do charity work with organizations like The Humane Society of United States, Big Life Foundation, the Halo Pet Foundation, and Farm Sanctuary and encourages all animal lovers to donate for the cause. He started the Show Me Campaign to raise funds and awareness about Africa’s rural areas. His organization helps by providing meals, health provisions, and education to those in need. He is also an advocate for the Gentlemen’s Fund, an organization that strives to encourage men to seek intellectual and sophisticated outlets in order to better themselves and society. His activism also takes him to Universities around the world – performing at graduation speeches to encourage young minds by teaching them the importance of humility, love, and perseverance. His biggest endeavor has been protecting animal rights. He has done work with PETA, Humane Society International, Animal Defenders International, and American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign to name a few. Not only has she generated a huge amount of attention on many types of important issues through her TV show, she has shown exceptional consistency when it comes to giving to those in need. She has done impressive charity work regarding humanitarian issues, civil equality, disaster relief, and research for diseases. She also focuses on child abuse, rape prevention, education, the environment and too many other charities to name. She has founded three different organizations –The Angel Network, The Oprah Winfrey Foundation, and The Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation – and donates 100% of the proceeds from each of her charities. In one amazing gesture, she once gave out $1000 debit cards to over 300 members of her audience and asked them to donate to the charity of their choice. He donates to many charity organizations helping to fight homelessness, hunger, and provide disaster relief. His biggest passion is preventing the heinous atrocities to those who can’t defend themselves; he co-founded the Not On Our Watch with friends Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Jerry Weintraub, and Matt Damon whose mission it is to “generate lifesaving humanitarian assistance and protection for the vulnerable, marginalized, and displaced.” He plays a crucial role creating mainstream awareness to address human rights crimes in various parts of Africa like Sudan, South Sudan, Congo, Somalia, and areas controlled by the Lord’s Resistance Army.
